Vancouver Cardinals
Hazel Dell Metro Babe Ruth, a youth baseball organization with 17 World Series appearances and more than thirty state championships, decided to cease operations in 2017 — a move that reflects a cultural change that threatens programs in all youth sports today. Local community-based programs, like HDM are struggling to survive because they are increasingly seen as offering subpar coaching and competition. Although this is largely unfounded, the resulting exodus has increased the popularity of “elite”, “travel” and “club” teams.
Rather than accept this fate, the Vancouver Cardinals Baseball Club — one of the premier teams of HDM — chose to return to its roots as a member of American Legion Baseball, the organization in which it originally gained national prominence. As part of this decision, One Degree was retained to develop a fresh identity for the ball club — one that reflects the fighting spirit of the team and the resolve of its new management. Work includes a logo family, word mark and a custom font for uniforms.
